Project Description
When the business school at the University of Kentucky decided to expand there was a hundred and fifty-year-old Burr Oak Tree in the way. Rather than just remove it, the University decided to use it to make a 30 x 12-foot table for their conference room. We were given this privilege. Designed by a UK art teacher and woodworker, we engineered and built the table along with 12 other coffee tables for the new building addition. The Burr Oak Tree yielded over 26,000 square feet of veneer, only a small portion of which was actually used in the table. The remainder of the material is reserved for later use.
